About
I have been a Ham since 1977. I was 16 years old when I received my first call, KA2NQF while living in NYC, US. Those years the exam was taken at the FCC office located at 201 Varick Street in Downtown Manhattan. Later I passed the 13wpm CW test and upgraded to Technician and quickly went up to General in 1981 with the vanity call of WA2RDG. In the 90’s I used HI8RDG in Santo Domingo and WA2RDG while in the US. It was only in 2010 when I moved back to the beautiful Dominican Republic, then I got the General ticket with the HI8RD and recently upgraded to Superior Class (Equivalent to Extra Class). As a Ham for 47 years I have chosen DXing as my main interest in Amateur Radio. In 2014 my first experience on a Dxpedition was to Saona, a small island at the east coast of Dominican Republic using the call HI2DX, later IN 2017 I was part of the team to Beata Island Dxpedition with the call HI1UD. Recently last year my wife Annie (HI8ADD) and I went on a DX Expedition with a group of friends from the Dateline DX Association to SVALBARD, the world’s northernmost place located halfway between mainland Norway and the North Pole. I was part of the team of operators of JW0A. I also operated as JW/HI8RD.
I am active on most bands and enjoy chasing rare entities and dxpeditions.
